Twin Cities Minnesota Photographer Joe Szurszewski
Travel Photography, Black & White Photography, Night Photography
Photography is not only Joe's livelihood, it's his hobby and his passion. When not on professional assignment, Joe pursues a variety of personal photographic interests. Chief among these are travel photography, with Britain and Iceland being particular favorites, low-light and night photography, and abstract black & white photography.
Perhaps because of a childhood partly spent in England, Joe has a love for the British Isles and the endless photographic opportunities they present, and travels there as often as he can. From the cobbled back streets of Oxford and Cambridge, to bustle of London, to the ever-changing skies above the English Channel, Joe is drawn to it all and compelled to explore ever more deeply the historic land and its friendly, charming, and quirky people.
Iceland is an incredible place to be a photographer. Owing to abundant geothermal energy, Iceland has almost no pollution, and this can be disorienting in an unexpected way -- it is possible see clearly much further than the average resident of an industrialized nation might expect. This is stunningly evident if the weather cooperates and you stand on the docks in Reykjavik and look north toward
Snæfellsjökull, a glacier-covered volcano nearly 75 miles distant. It takes a while to realize that something isn't quite right. The bottom third of the volcano can't be seen because the
curvature of the earth is hiding it. Add to this black sand beaches, round-the-clock light in the summer, and a population that
reroutes highways to avoid disturbing elves, and you have a place that not only looks like nowhere else, it manages to convey its beauty and mystery in photos like few other places.
